The VIP Private Charter is mainly aimed towards people who would like the whole boat to themselves. This is usually large private groups, parties, stag and hen do’s and corporate events.

We can produce a specific itinerary to take you upon an adventure, you can create your own itinerary or you can have a blast around the bay and beaches until your hearts content. The boat is at your command.

Minimum booking time is 45 minutes.

On departure of the harbour we will have a high speed orientation run, then we will head out either east or west, to make the most of the conditions on the day.

Seal Island

Is located 3.5 nautical miles west from St Ives Harbour this takes approximately 10 minutes for our boats to reach.

If conditions are deemed too dangerous or if it is persistently raining, the skipper will decide to cancel the Seafari. Customers will be given as much notice as possible, with cancellations often decided the day before if the forecast is poor. However, weather can change rapidly, so last-minute decisions may be necessary. Please provide an up-to-date contact number for any notifications.

 

No, there are no toilets on either Blue Thunder or Blue Lightning boats.

 

The minimum age is 3 years old. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The main requirement is that passengers can sit safely and hold on properly, regardless of age.

Tickets can be purchased:

  • From staff outside St Ives Lifeboat Station
  • At the main desk across St Ives Harbour (opposite the Sloop Inn Pub)
  • Online via the website (a booking button is available on the site).

Meeting points include:

  • St Ives Lifeboat Station, where ticket sellers will be present.
  • The main desk at St Ives Harbour (opposite the Sloop Inn Pub).
  • After arrival, passengers will put on a life jacket and walk to the departure point.

No, riding is not recommended for individuals with back, neck, or serious injuries. A waiver will need to be signed. The crew has basic first aid training only, and first aid equipment onboard is limited.

  • Blue Thunder seats 12 passengers.
  • Blue Lightning also seats 12 passengers.
  • Groups of up to 24 people can be accommodated across two boats.

Passengers should not get wet, though some light spray is possible. Wearing appropriate clothing (such as a jacket) is recommended.

The trips comply with regulations set by the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) and Mecal boat surveyors, ensuring safety and environmental considerations.

Common wildlife sightings include:

  • Common Dolphins
  • Bottlenose Dolphins
  • Risso Dolphins
  • Atlantic Grey Seals (both young and adults)
  • Sharks
  • Bluefin Tuna
  • Sunfish
  • Seabirds such as Gannets, Cormorants, and Seagulls.

Passengers generally do not experience seasickness. The high-speed planing hulls minimise the slow-rolling motion that typically causes seasickness.
